Vision is one of the most beautiful gifts given by God. But most often, people realise its importance only after they lose it. Many eye diseases can often be caught and treated in time if one regularly gets a routine eye check-up.At the Himalayan eye institute, a comprehensive eye examination is available to get a full evaluation of your overall eye health.
A comprehensive eye check-up can be availed by any individual of any age. However, it is even more important for those with:
i) Age > 40 years
ii) Family history of eye disorder (glaucoma, retinal problem)
iii) Systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, thyroid, arthritis, anemia, autoimmune diseases, malignancy, tuberculosis
iv) On long term medicines such as steroids, TB medicine, HCQS, neurological medicine
Most comprehensive eye exams include:
A comprehensive eye examination can last up to an hour or more as there are a number of eye tests that are performed.
If dilation of your eyes is required for your check-up, you will be seeing near objects blurry for 3-4 hours. Hence it is recommended to have an attendant with you for the check-up, and not to drive after this test.
A girl undergoes many challenges during adolescent age - physical, psychological, emotional and social maturity. These challenges are worsened if there is sudden vision loss. Rita Ghosh, a 18 year old girl from Balurghat, West Bengal realized just couple of months ago that she was unable to see things clearly. Her eye condition deteriorated very fast and soon she became completly blind (PL +ve in both eyes).
Her father, Joydeb Ghosh, a hawker of ready-made garments by profession, immediately took her to an eye specialist in Malda where the doctor diagnosed her with matured bilateral cataract and advised her to go to either Kolkata or Siliguri for proper treatment. Rita was also diagnosed with very high uncontrolled blood sugar last year and she has been on insulin since then. Due to these health issues Rita could not cope up with her studies and could not clear her high school exam.
Joydeb's relatives in Siliguri recomended him to visit The Himalayan Eye Institute. On examination, Dr. Supratik Banerjee advised her to undergo surgery immediately. Lions Club of Siliguri Help extended generous help by sponsoring entire cost of the eye surgery. This was really a blessing for Joydeb and her daughter. Rita's left eye surgery was performed successfully. Post surgery, Rita has gained very good vision in her left eye (VA 6/9 unaided) as she looks forward to return to her studies soon after her second eye surgery to be performed next month.
